Player's Cut: The AIXO Mood Paddle
The Mood is the Scorpion series at its most expressive – a design that changes character depending on which way you tilt it, over a build that never changes at all: 3K raw carbon face, 14mm thermoformed core, USAPA approved, around £64.
As a playing tool, it slots into the same bracket as a dependable tour-style tennis frame in a club player's hands. The 14mm core delivers a firm, connected strike – the ball leaves promptly, with the flat, purposeful trajectory tennis volleys are built on – while the 3K carbon face adds the surface texture that makes spin a choice rather than an accident. Brush up the back of the ball on a drive and it arcs and drops; hold the face open through a dink and the slice stays low enough to keep bigger hitters honest.
The thermoformed unibody gives the Mood its durability and its composure. Sealed, heat-moulded construction resists the twisting that plagues cheaper paddles on off-centre contact, in the same way a torsionally solid frame steadies a late return of serve. It is why this tier holds its feel through seasons of league play – and why the USAPA approval on the face is worth having, because the paddle will still merit a tournament long after you decide to enter one.
Whatever mood you arrive in, the specification does not have them. It just plays.

Under the Lights: AIXO Reaper Tiger King
Every range needs its apex predator, and AIXO's wears stripes. The Reaper Tiger King is the flagship specification – 18K raw carbon face, 14mm thermoformed core, USAPA approved – at around £70, which remains the range's boldest statement: top-shelf construction at half the money the imported names ask.
Tennis players tend to understand this paddle within a dozen balls. The 18K weave is the stiffest, most premium face in the line, and it interacts with the ball the way a fresh, shaped polyester does – biting on contact for spin, then releasing with pace when you accelerate through. Drives and speed-ups come off it with genuine venom. The 14mm thermoformed core keeps the package quick and stable, so counter-attacking at the kitchen line feels like punching volleys with a perfectly weighted frame: short movement, big result.
Its demands are equally familiar. Like a proper player's racket, the Tiger King returns exactly what your technique deposits – it will not manufacture depth for a tentative swing or rescue a wandering contact point. Tennis converts who have already compacted their strokes and found the paddle sweet spot will feel the ceiling lift immediately; those a season behind that point will be happier one tier down with the Scorpion until the timing arrives.
Tournament legal, built to outlast its owner's ambitions and impossible to miss across a court: the king, as advertised.

Weekend Demo: AIXO Scorpion Supernature
Nature-inspired graphics with distinctly unnatural pace: the Supernature carries AIXO's full mid-tier specification – 3K raw carbon face, 14mm thermoformed core, USAPA approval – at around £45, and it spent our weekend demo sessions being argued over.
The argument is easy to understand once you have hit with it. Tennis players describe the Scorpion tier the way they describe a properly matched frame: the ball goes where the swing says, at the pace the swing earns. The 14mm core gives a firm, immediate response – less cushion than the entry-tier Ghost, more precision – and the 3K carbon face has genuine tooth for spin. Roll a forehand dink with the wrist quiet and the arm relaxed, exactly as you would brush a short topspin angle in tennis, and the ball climbs the net and dives obediently.
Thermoforming underwrites all of it. Moulding the paddle into one sealed structure is the industry's answer to torsional stability – the property you pay for in a quality tennis frame – and it shows most on the shots you slightly miss. Late contact stays playable. Jammed volleys stay in. Over a three-hour session, that margin is the difference between winning the scrappy points and donating them.
USAPA approved, league legal and dressed like a rainforest documentary: the Supernature makes the competitive tier feel anything but corporate.

The Long Look: AIXO Ghost Ultra Noir
In a range named the Colour Clash Club, the all-black paddle is arguably the boldest move of all. The Ultra Noir is the Ghost series in stealth trim: T700 carbon face, 16mm cold-pressed core, around £30, and not a single concession to decoration.
It draws the tennis traditionalists the way an all-black frame always has – and the spec underneath suits them just as well. The thick 16mm core gives the plush, damped response of a comfort-oriented racket: a broad sweet spot, easy depth control and a contact feel that never jars, session after session. For players managing tennis elbow or simply protective of their arm across two sports, that cushioning is a genuine selling point rather than marketing.
The T700 carbon face supplies the precision. Dinks come off it with a clean, slightly gripped sensation – closer to a control string than a trampoline – which is what makes the soft game feel like craft instead of chance. Spin is available when your technique calls for it, and feedback is honest enough that improvement is measurable week to week.
The Ultra Noir is the Ghost we recommend to the player who says they will "just try pickleball once" while already owning four black tennis rackets. We know how this story ends; at least the paddle will match the bag it ends up living in.

Court Report: AIXO Ghost Impossible 'A'
The Impossible 'A' takes its name from the optical-illusion lettering on its face, and it has a habit of confusing opponents in a second way: it plays above its price. This is the Ghost platform – T700 carbon face, 16mm core, around £40 – wearing its most graphic design.
On court, the character is classic entry-tier AIXO: deep, soft and dependable. The 16mm core operates like a well-cushioned string bed at moderate tension, offering a wide sweet spot and a gentle response that flatters contact still in transition from tennis timing. Blocked returns sit down obediently, and the dreaded mid-court reset – the shot with no tennis equivalent – becomes learnable because the paddle absorbs incoming pace instead of rebounding it into the net-cord lottery.
The carbon face is the quiet upgrade over the paddles most people start with. T700 weave brings connection and a touch of bite, so as your dinks develop from survival shots into weapons, the equipment keeps pace rather than capping you at beginner. Tennis players tend to find their slice instincts translate first – a low, skidding dink is essentially a soft chip – and this face rewards exactly that.
An honest paddle, a striking face and change from £50: the report card writes itself. When the competitive itch arrives, the thermoformed Scorpion is the next rung – but there is no hurry whatsoever.

Stringer's Notes: AIXO Ghost Dogtown
Skate-culture graphics on a carbon paddle: the Dogtown is the Ghost for players whose tennis whites have never once been white. Under the artwork sits the series' standard build – a T700 carbon face on a forgiving 16mm core, at around £30.
From the stringing room's point of view, the Ghost series is the range's honest workhorse. The 16mm core is the comfort specification – the same role a plush multifilament plays in a tennis frame – taking the shock out of contact and widening the margin on off-centre hits. That translates to a paddle you can play three club sessions a week with and feel nothing in the elbow, which matters more than most buyers realise when they swap one racket sport's workload for two.
The T700 carbon face carries the performance side. It gives the Dogtown proper feel for the touch exchanges pickleball is actually decided by, and enough grab on the ball for developing spin – a fresh-strings sensation that cheap glass-faced paddles never offer. Grinders, counter-punchers and anyone who wins ugly will recognise the character immediately: this paddle absorbs, resets and waits for the error.
Pair it with one of AIXO's printed overgrips – the skate aesthetic rather invites it, and the same tape wraps your tennis handle identically. First paddle, spare paddle or statement paddle: at this money the Dogtown covers all three without breaking stride.

Kit Check: AIXO Ghost Lucky Cat
The beckoning cat has sold noodles, guarded shopfronts and now, apparently, wins kitchen battles. The Lucky Cat is the most charming paddle in AIXO's Ghost series – T700 carbon face, 16mm cold-pressed core, around £30 – and it has become the quiet favourite of our crossover customers.
Do not let the whimsy fool you into reading it as a toy. The T700 carbon face puts it a full class above the fibreglass paddles most beginners accidentally buy, with the kind of clean, communicative contact a tennis player expects from a decent string bed. The deep 16mm core plays soft and forgiving – imagine an oversize frame strung in the low 40s – which is exactly the platform on which the sport's soft game is learned. Dinks land short because the paddle is not fighting to overpower them; resets soak up pace the way soft strings kill a heavy incoming ball.
For tennis players, the Lucky Cat's control-first character solves the biggest crossover problem: everything you hit in your first month wants to go three feet too deep. A plush paddle buys you margin while your hands recalibrate, and keeps club night fun in the meantime.
Superstition optional, but noted: several regulars now refuse to play without the cat. Fortune, as the saying goes, favours the well-equipped.

Demo Day: AIXO Ghost Prism Break
Whenever we run a demo session, the Prism Break is the paddle that never makes it back to the rack. A full rainbow refracted across raw carbon – and beneath it, the dependable Ghost recipe: T700 carbon face, 16mm cold-pressed core, around £40.
The reason it works so well as a first paddle is the same reason a mid-plus, medium-stiff tennis frame works as a first racket: it removes the equipment from your list of problems. The 16mm core is deep and forgiving, so the sweet spot feels enormous and off-centre contact costs you a little depth rather than the whole point. New pickleball players coming from tennis tend to take huge cuts at the ball for the first few weeks; a plush, thick-cored paddle absorbs those misjudgements while the swing shortens to something sensible.
At the same time, the carbon face keeps the ceiling high. Touch shots come off it with real information – you can feel the difference between a good drop and a lucky one – and there is enough grip on the ball to start developing spin the moment your technique asks for it. Fibreglass paddles at this price simply do not do that.
Buy it as your first paddle, keep it as your loaner, or buy it because greys and blacks have had racket sports to themselves for long enough. The rainbow needs no further justification.

Shop Floor: AIXO Scorpion Country Club
Of every design AIXO makes, the Country Club is the one that sells itself to tennis people on sight – heritage stripes and clubhouse manners over a thoroughly modern build. Specification: 3K raw carbon face, 14mm thermoformed core, USAPA approved, around £45.
It is the paddle we hand to members who ask for something that will not embarrass them at either end of the court. The 3K carbon face delivers the controlled bite good tennis technique deserves – enough texture to shape a topspin roll or hold a low slice dink, with the direct, honest feedback of a quality string bed rather than the dead thud of budget materials. The 14mm thermoformed core keeps the response quick and stable, so blocked returns and counter-volleys feel like they are coming off the middle of a well-balanced frame.
In the range, the Scorpion tier is the competitive sweet spot: it brings the thermoformed unibody construction and USAPA approval of the flagship Reaper at a friendlier price, giving away only the 18K face's final margin of stiffness and spin. For a club player competing weekly, it is honestly all the paddle required – the equivalent of the sensible tour-frame-in-a-lighter-spec that most good club tennis players actually use.
If your whites are ironed and your dinks disciplined, this is your AIXO. It will look precisely right leaning against the clubhouse veranda – and play better than it looks.
